Brief Activity Report

1.On the occasion of World environment Day, TBMVKS organized awareness Camp at program office Singramau. The camp was inaugurated by Mahendra Kumar Shukla DSCO Gorakhpur. He told the this year theme, “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience,” underscores the urgent need to protect and restore our land resources. Land degradation, desertification, and drought pose significant threats to ecosystems, biodiversity, and human well-being. By focusing on these interconnected issues, the World Environment Day 2024 theme aims to mobilize action and drive meaningful change towards sustainable land management and resilience-building measures.During briefing of Importance of Land Restoration said that Land restoration is a critical endeavor that holds immense significance for our planet. Let’s delve into why ecological restoration is essential and how it impacts our environment, economy, and well-being. Ecosystem Health and Biodiversity

  • Healthy Soils: Land restoration aims to revive degraded soils. These soils are essential for plant growth, nutrient cycling, and water retention. By restoring these complex relationships between soil, plants, and micro-organisms, we support biodiversity and ecosystem health.
  • Habitat Restoration: Restoring land provides habitat for diverse plant and animal species. Biodiversity ensures ecosystem resilience and contributes to the overall environmental balance.
2.Climate Change Mitigation
Carbon Sequestration: Restored land acts as a carbon sink, capturing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This helps mitigate climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Enhanced Resilience: Healthy ecosystems are more resilient to climate-related challenges such as extreme weather events and rising temperatures.
 3.Economic Benefits
Global GDP Dependency: Nature underpins approximately half of the world’s GDP. Every dollar invested in restoration generates up to $30 in benefits.
•Job Creation: Restoring agricultural land provides jobs and ensures food security. Smallholder farmers benefit from increased income and improved livelihoods.
4.Disaster Prevention and Food Security •Natural Disaster Resilience: Land restoration helps prevent disasters like floods. Healthy landscapes absorb excess water and reduce vulnerability.
•Feeding a Growing Population: As the global population grows, restoring agricultural land becomes crucial. Restoring 150 million hectares of degraded agricultural land could generate $85 billion in net benefits and enhance food security for millions.
